Freemasonry
Freemasonry is the world's largest and most widely established fraternal order. The masons' guilds were originally restricted to stonecutters, but with the completion of the building of the cathedrals in the 17th century, and especially in England during the Reformation, they admitted as members men of wealth or social status.

The Knights Templar
French nobleman Hugh de Payens founded the Poor Knights of Christ in 1119 with eight of his companions. The order was founded in Jerusalem, which had been captured by Crusaders in 1099, and it occupied a house near the Temple of Solomon. As a result, it soon acquired the popular name Knights Templar, or simply Templars.

The Age of Enlightenment is a term used to describe the trends in thought and letters in Europe and the American colonies during the 18th century prior to the French Revolution. The phrase was frequently employed by writers of the period itself, convinced that they were emerging from centuries of darkness and ignorance into a new age enlightened by reason, science, and a respect for humanity.
